Pretty Purple

After having had a few disappointing experiences with a few expensive lingerie sets, I decided that I wanted to take a long break from them. I’m not very happy about wasting $50 or more on something that I don’t absolutely love. Instead, I decided to buy a few lower-priced sets and see if I liked those more. One such set I recently bought is the purple and black mesh and lace babydoll set. It comes in quite a few sizes, from small to 3X/4X. I purchased size small.
The babydoll and matching mesh G-string come on a plastic hanger and are wrapped in plastic. The hanger is good for storing the set, since it keeps the babydoll’s mesh skirt wrinkle-free. Attached to the babydoll is a hang tag showing a model wearing it. The tag inside the babydoll gives you a little bit of information about it. The set is made from 82% nylon and 18% spandex (exclusive of trim). It should be hand washed and hung up to dry. Do not bleach or iron it.
The babydoll is made of two materials: stretchy floral print black lace and purple mesh. The bust area is made of the black lace and strongly resembles a bra. It had adjustable straps and hooks in the back like a bra. The cups have underwire in them but they are not lined. The lace is see-through. Between the cups is a purple ribbon bow. Along the bottom of the bust portion the lace has scalloped edges.
The bottom of the babydoll is all purple mesh. It’s pretty plain compared to the black lace. There are no bows or anything attached to it and the hem is not trimmed with any lace or ruffles. In the back, under the bra-like hooks, the mesh cuts into a keyhole shape.
This is a really short piece of lingerie, as can be seen on the model in the product photos. On the model, the babydoll falls just above her crotch. When I wear the babydoll it falls about in the same area, give or take an inch or two. I’m 5’8” tall. Measuring from the top of a cup to the bottom hem, the babydoll is 19 inches long.
I also noticed that, on the model, the cups of this don’t appear to come up very high. While this is great for my small breasts, those with larger breasts will be falling out unless their breasts are very perky. At the same time, the underwire is way too big. When I put this on, the underwire was poking into my armpits and was irritating me between my breasts as well. Compared to the wire in my 34B bras, the underwire in this extends up an additional inch and a half on each side. At the same time, it has the same shape as a B cup bra. The only good thing I can say about this is that it will help prevent side boob. I think it would especially be uncomfortable to those who don’t wear bras with underwire. The lace feels just a tad scratchy on my breasts right out of the plastic, but if you soak it in some fabric softener and water in the sink it will soften up.
I do like the purple mesh bottom of the babydoll. It’s very flowy and comfortable. It is see-through, but the loose material helps hide minor imperfections. It’s also short enough to comfortably have sex in it without it riding up or getting in the way.
The G-string isn’t all terribly too exciting. It’s nicer than the cheapo thongs that tend to come with pretty lingerie, but I still don’t like it. It’s mostly made of purple mesh. At the top, there is a section of black lace. The waistband and all trim are done in black stretchy material. A tag is sewn into the front band of the G-string. There is no panty liner. The material is stretchy enough to fit comfortably and the waistband does not cause a muffin top to appear.
Since I do not wear G-strings I chose instead to wear a zebra print hipster-style panty with black lace trim. It actually went pretty well with the purple and black of the babydoll.
Measurements:
Bust (around): 22 inches
Waist: 38 inches
Hip: about 60 inches
G-string waistband: 26 inches
G-string waistband stretched: 36 inches
G-string rise: 4 ½ inches
Size Chart (small):
Dress size: 4 – 6
Cup: B
Bust: 34 – 36
Waist: 26 – 28
Hip: 36 – 38
Compared to the size chart, I fit perfectly in the measurements provided for size small. My dress size is 6, I wear a 34B bra, my waist measures 27 inches, and my hips measure about 35 inches. I almost always order size small in non-corset lingerie from Coquette. I expected this to fit me pretty well and was not disappointed.
The size chart is very accurate. As I said before, this is a bit small for breasts, so if you find you fit all the measurements except for the bust, you’ll need to size up. The fact that the rest of the babydoll does not fit tight will help if you need to order up a size since it won’t look baggy.
Since the babydoll is sheer, it’s only really good for wear around the house or bedroom. I don’t find it comfortable enough to sleep in due to the underwire. There’s really no way to make it work to wear outside of the house.
Overall, I like this babydoll quite a bit. It’s flattering to my chubby midsection and tiny bust. I love the color combination, too. The only thing I don’t care for is the horribly shaped underwire, but it’s not really a deal breaker to me since I only wear this for maybe an hour at most at a time. I would definitely purchase this set in another color.
I give the mesh and lace babydoll set 4 out of 5 stars.
